The first WWOOF'er came to Stensbæk in 2012, and since then we have had young helpers from Israel, Denmark, Germany, USA, Spain, Belgium, Bosnia, just to name a few. The young people have all been open and interested in Stensbæk and everything that happens here. They have been both a great help and a breath of fresh air from the outside world. We have had many positive experiences with exotic food, music and interesting conversations.
What is a WWOOF'er?
The WWOOF movement started in 1971 in England when Sue Coppard decided to create opportunities for people from the cities to go out into the countryside and provide an active contribution to the organic movement. It was first called Working Weekends on Organic Farms. Today it is called World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. Denmark joined the movement in 1985. In general, host families are farms and others involved in organic production.
The idea of WWOOF'ing is to spread interest and knowledge about organic food production and lifestyles. WWOOF'ing is for everyone, regardless of age, and it is not necessary to have prior knowledge or experience. The key is openness and interest in ideas. At the same time WWOOF'ers have the opportunity to learn about the daily life and culture of the country they are visiting.
The Board of the Support Association for Stensbæk - The Holistic Centre opens the Centre for WWOOF'ers. On a holistic level, the internationality of WWOOF'ing and its possibilities for promoting human understanding appeal to us.
